Poppy production rose 800% in Afghanistan during the Bush administration. Russia is suffering fro the worst heroin epidemic in history where methadone is illegal. The profits fuel the Taliban. The people in Afghanistan have more faith in the Taliban than their own corrupt government. The US will most likely send in thousands of more troops to hold up said government. While ignoring the underlying reality of the countries financial dependence on the heroin trade. So for the people looking for Obama to make a quick decision on sending more troops I say, go fuck yourselves.
as much as I hate injecting myself into politics on message boards, I really do have to say that I agree. politicians seem to redefine words to suit their opportunistic agendas, meanwhile blatantly ignoring reality. we need some leadership with credibility, integrity and more that we need leadership with a unwavering conscience that goes beyond public relation passivation and diversion. I have been opposed to the war from day one and that is not going to 'change'.
I second that. The Bush administration was notorious for predicting other countries' responses to our actions based on a very narrow American point of view. Nobody ever thought to consider things through eyes that weren't wearing American shades.
The fact that Obama is taking the time to consider all possibilities, and better yet, handing reports BACK to his people and saying, "none of these solutions is acceptable, please send me a plan I can do something with" is probably the second-best thing he's done with this administration.
For all the whining going on in this country, we're still better off than so MANY places. And though things can't be said to be great, the very first thing we should do, and finally ARE doing, is standing by the principles we all waggle around and point at as what separates us from the past and guides us into the future.
Principles that get chucked the first time things get hard makes us worse than those without principles in the first place; it makes us liars and untrustworthy.
Yeah. Christmas isn't going to be a greed-fest this year. And there are a lot of people suffering out there. Maybe, this is the Christmas when even Santa's ideals get restored, and it becomes more about helping the guy down the street who doesn't have dinner than it is buying a bunch of crap that we can't recycle, aren't reusing, and never needed in the first place.
I'm not a religious person, but I say this: may ALL the Gods bless Obama. He needs all the help he can get. And just in case the Gods are on holiday and can't help, maybe I'll take my kids volunteering this year for Christmas, and give our President a hand.
